This effort is a direct response to the severe pressure on Canada’s healthcare system this holiday season. Tia Health will now manage most of Rexall’s virtual care services to help keep patients with non emergency issues away from overcrowded emergency rooms.

As cases of respiratory illness and seasonal injuries rise, emergency rooms and walk in clinics are facing wait times of over 12 hours. By integrating Tia Health’s large network of Canadian licensed doctors directly into Rexall’s online health portal, patients can now connect with a primary care provider in minutes from their home.

Reducing Pressure on Hospitals
The expanded program specifically focuses on non urgent medical problems that commonly fill emergency departments during the holidays. Through the Tia Health platform, Rexall customers can access live video or phone appointments with doctors seven days a week. They can also get digital prescriptions sent immediately to their preferred Rexall location for same day pickup or delivery, and receive specialist referrals or lab test orders to continue their care without needing to visit a clinic in person. For residents in Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia with a valid health card, the service remains free with no out of pocket cost.

Rexall, which has more than 400 pharmacies nationwide, has been moving toward a model where pharmacists provide more walk in care. This partnership with Tia Health adds an on demand doctor service to that model, supporting pharmacists as they help patients manage minor illnesses and monitor chronic conditions.
