Canada's National Ballet School (NBS) is dedicated to the transformative power of dance, nurturing talent from budding dancers to seasoned professionals. Established in 1959 by Celia Franca and Betty Oliphant, the school emerged to foster Canada’s ballet scene. Located on the traditional lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit, NBS honors Indigenous peoples' contributions and acknowledges the land's history.

NBS emphasizes accessibility and inclusion, offering a range of programs from professional ballet training to community and adult dance classes, ensuring dance reaches people of all ages. Over the years, it has pioneered initiatives such as the Teacher Training Program, community outreach activities, and the Sharing Dance Day, which engages Canadians nationwide. The school has also expanded its facilities, integrating modern dance and a curriculum focused on the holistic well-being of dancers.

Despite challenges, including the global pandemic, NBS remains committed to diversity and equity in dance. It launched the Lozinski Centre for Community Dance in 2020 to broaden access to dance. In recent years, NBS has hosted events like the Assemblée Internationale and a joint Canada-U.S. symposium to promote racial equity within ballet, reflecting its vision for a more inclusive future.
