Most people are familiar with Toronto’s hustle, bustle, restaurants and popular attractions, but what about experiencing the city outside of that? The city’s art scene provides a fresh view of the city’s culture and creativity. Whether you’re looking at contemporary paintings or traditional art, art offers a chance to explore new concepts, enjoy diverse perspectives and to find inspiration in surprising locations.

For the classically oriented or for anyone who appreciates something fine, a trip to an exhibition can take you a couple hours of fun. Specialists are not required to appreciate a piece. In some cases, a specific color, concept or painting style is sufficient to draw your eye.

There is something interesting about the Toronto art galleries that allows you to experience various ways of expression. Some artworks reflect everyday life, others are about nature, feelings, self or abstract concepts.

All artists have their own unique style in creating an artwork. A landscape painting may focus on the qualities of a location while a modern painting may involve the use of odd materials or forms to convey a concept. If you have the time, it’s helpful to take some time and notice these distinctions, so that every visit will be more interesting.

Take the time to look at the artwork you’re interested in, instead of just skimming through an exhibition. Observe the details; think about how the artist uses colour; and muse about what the picture evokes. Sometimes, you’ll find an interesting piece more interesting after you have studied it for a while.

Making Art a Part of Everyday Life

Enjoying art doesn’t stop at the door to the gallery. Art can be a tool that enhances the space in which you live or work and can be unique to you.

Consider how you want to hang art when making your art selection. A large painting may be the center of a living room, and a small painting may be an ideal fit in a hallway, bedroom or home office. Take lighting, wall area, furniture and current colors into account.

The personal touch to a piece is as important as it’s looks. Maybe a serene nature scene, an abstract piece of colour, or a piece that evokes a happy memory. It is better to make something you like, so that you make it more personal.

Why Presentation and Framing Matter

Artwork presentation can affect the experience of the viewer. For instance, a painting or print can be complemented by framing and it can help to protect artwork from daily wear.

The frame size, medium, colours and the place the artwork will go are some of the factors that will determine the right type of frame for the artwork. A simple frame might be more appropriate for a newer print, and a more ornate frame could work for an older or more traditional print. No single option is suitable for all works of art.

For those who are looking to try out various styles or perhaps artwork for their very own, the Westmount Gallery is a fantastic option to take a look at. If you take a little time to get to know your needs and the various presentation options, you can make a choice that will correspond to the artwork and the setting.
